Oftentimes, complex problems only require simple solutions.
When Coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 first hit the country, Pasig was among the cities that recorded the highest number of infected individuals. To address this, Mayor Vico Sotto and the city government transformed the Pasig City Children’s Hospital into a COVID-19 facility and beef up the local health system to increase efficiency, reduce risk of contamination between COVID and non-COVID cases, and control, if not reduce the number of positive cases.

The city government’s response became successful that the number of COVID cases was controlled. Because of the success, the city plans to operate the Pasig City Children’s Hospital into a specialty hospital for infectious diseases with general services even after the pandemic.
